Healing is a Choice by Stephen Arterburn

Do you want to get well?

The power to heal—physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually—is in God's hands. But the choice to be healed is ours. Everyone, at some level, needs healing. In this book, Stephen Arterburn outlines ten choices crucial to receiving healing and ten lies that can prevent us from making them. Readers will find the wholeness God desires for them in a practical and prayerful way through this book.

Now including the full workbook, this combined release emphasizes the fact that we must choose to let the hurt go and let the healing begin.

The book asks the participant, "Do you want to be healed?" If the answer is yes, then ten choices are provided to make the path toward healing a restorative experience.
Stephen Arterburn has written a book that identifies "Ten Decisions That Will Transform Your Life and Ten Lies That Can Prevent You From Making Them". This book was about healing your life from life's pain (childhood, grief, divorce, fractured relationships, etc.). It also includes a supplemental workbook. It was well-written, and at times I found it difficult to navigate my way through certain sections, but most of it was fairly easy to follow.

I liked how transparent the author was in regard to his marital problems (two divorces), and losing his home. He was very honest and forthcoming, which is refreshing. I also like that the workbook sections are included at the end of each chapter, rather than at the back of the book.

Healing is available to all of us, if we just seek it. I liked how he focuses on the fact that there are people in the world who just do not want to be healed. It truly is a choice that requires focus, forgiveness, and faith. It isn't quick, and it isn't easy - but it is possible. We all have hurts and scars. It is impossible not to acquire at least a few scratches as we journey through this life. Some scratches are fairly minor, others are deep painful gashes that feel as if they will never go away. This book will help with that healing, and I feel it  would be especially helpful for those who suffer from depression issues.
